The Layers of Communication
Quote
"To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world."
Tony Robbins
Did you know…
A range of factors can influence how we interpret a message. The tone of the sender, non-verbal cues and our own experiences and perspectives can all shape how we receive communication. Two people could interpret the same message in different ways.
For common ground and a mutual understanding to be found in communication, taking an opportunity to check in can help to overcome miscommunications. Asking clarifying questions, paraphrasing and confirming what has been said can allow for greater clarity; that the message is being heard as it was intended.
Thoughts
Have you ever felt completely listened to and understood in a conversation. What helped make you feel heard?
When there is clarity in communication and being aware of what created that, we can create mutual understandings and learn from one another.
Have you found checking in during a conversation, such as, "is that what you meant?", has this been helpful?
Clarifying that we've understood the message can create ongoing shared information and help to avoid misunderstandings.

Ok that’s all, for now!
